European mobility week: let's go to a smart mobility

By Béatrice Alcaraz on 6 septembre 2016

The European Mobility Week 2016 focuses on « Smart and Sustainable mobility, an investment for Europe » : smart mobility strong economy.

More than 1500 cities from 41 countries were involved in the 2016 European Mobility Week Campaign. Not only European countries, but now cities from Mexico, South Korea and Japan take also part to this campaign.

The EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK campaign is the perfect opportunity to present sustainable mobility alternatives to citizens, to explain the challenges that cities and towns are facing in order to induce behavioural change and make progress towards creating a more sustainable transport strategy for Europe. Local authorities are strongly encouraged to use the Week to test new transport measures and get feedback from citizens.

Our new member, the first municipality in Slovakia : Trnava, participates to the EMW 2016 and organizes several activities to reduce traffic, promote soft modes of transport.

Since 2011, new ecological buses have been running in Trnava. Specially designed low-floor vehicles produce up to 95% fewer pollutants than conventional ones. This has contributed to the air quality improvement and introduced new services in public transport.

During this European Mobility Week, the municipality will highlight the importance of bicycle by improving bicycle networks and facilities (creation of new cycling lanes, extension, renovation, signposting, parking etc) and developing sharing systems.
A important place will also be given to pedestrians.
