European Week of Regions and Cities
From 8 to 11 October, Brussels, Belgium
In 2018, Cohesion Policy will reach its 30th anniversary, and the European Week of Regions and Cities will be anchored to the key moments of the policy cycle:
- The proposal for the next Multiannual financial framework.
- Its underlying legislative instruments.
- The European Parliament elections.
Moreover, the #EURegionsWeek should also witness the adoption of the European Committee of the Regions’ (CoR) opinion on the Future of Europe and the CoR President’s address on the State of the Union.

Key tools to boost energy renovation

Conference organised in the framework of REDay2018 by the Renovate Europe campaign
The amended Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) contains a vision for 2050 for the buildings stock in the EU – it will have to be highly energy efficient and decarbonised, reaching cost-effective nearly zero energy levels. As a result, it is time for action and the Member States will need to be armed with all the right tools and resources to achieve this challenging and necessary vision. This year’s Renovate Europe event will look at how to plan properly for the achievement of this 2050 vision.
The event will be followed by a networking lunch inside the European Parliament and by an opportunity to visit two construction sites in Brussels where deep energy renovation works are underway.

Supporting Public Authorities Towards Energy Efficiency - Where we are and where we want to be

PUBLENEF - Final Conference
The PUBLENEF EU Horizon 2020 project has been focusing on mobilising public authorities at local, regional and national level and connecting them. Based on needs assessments and good practices analysis, the partners developed policy roadmaps in 12 cities and regions across Europe to implement energy efficiency pathways towards sustainability.

The Covenant of Mayors Community : A governance model for the future EU Cohesion Policy

Workshop organised by the Covenant of Mayors-Europe Office and the Committee of the Regions (CoR)
The event is part of the 2018 European Week of Regions and Cities. It will consist of a workshop followed by a participatory session on how the Covenant of Mayors framework works in practice, and to discuss the governance of the future Cohesion Policy.

Efficient Buildings & Renewable Energy - MED Community Conference
From 18 to 19 octobre, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Organized in the framework of the Interreg MED Programme, with the support and in the presence of the EU Director General for Energy
The conference will host the partners of all Interreg MED Modular Projects from the two Thematic Communities : Efficient Buildings Community and Renewable Energy Community. They will present their on-going results to experts and strategic institutions with the objective of exchange opinions about their technical approach and their contribution to regulatory framework.

Covenant of Mayors workshop - Control, cap, cut : How to handle emission reduction in cities

Organised by the Covenant of Mayors-Europe Office
This Covenant of Mayors capacity-building workshop will be held on 18 October as part of the EUROCITIES Environment Forum. It will focus on different mitigating measures from the energy, constructions and transport sectors, aiming at reducing emission in the city territory, as well as on understanding the importance of a scientific basis for the policy making process, the existing knowledge gap and frontiers of the city emission inventories.

Renewable Networking Platform workshop

Organised in the framework of Klimaatverbond Nederland conference, this Renewable Networking Platform workshop will look at the spatial and regional consequences of local, sustainably generated energy. What opportunities does it offer for local democracy ? Is wind and solar energy a public issue or is it social property ? What political leadership is needed ? How do neighbouring cities in other countries approach this ? Coopem from Belgium, PlymouthEnergy from England and the European Commission will share their insights and experiences. Together we look for obstacles and opportunities in The Netherlands.

This exchange will continue from now until the conference in November 2018.

Rencontres nationales Territoires de l’après-pétrole : L’atout du paysage

Organisé par le Collectif Paysages de l’après-pétrole et la Mission Bassin Minier
Comment construire les paysages de l’après-pétrole ? Confronter 7 expériences européennes de transition écologique.
Pour économiser les ressources, les territoires en transition utilisent leurs forces vives humaines et naturelles locales. Pour que les nouveaux équipements soient bien acceptés, ils prennent en compte les usages et les représentations des populations. La transformation des territoires par les approches paysagères permet de relever les défis de la transition écologique. Ces approches apportent des solutions d’aménagement adaptées aux enjeux locaux énergétiques et sociaux. Les expériences de sept territoires européens alimenteront ces Rencontres nationales « paysages de l’après-pétrole » par leur cas concrets et éprouvés.

Energy Cities’ Annual conference
22-24 May 2019, Heidelberg, Germany
Energy Cities’ next annual conference will take place in Heidelberg from 22 to 24 May 2019, back to back with the International Conference on Climate Action (ICCA 2019). The host city is one of Germany’s leading cities on the Energytransition and climate action, with the objective of reducing 95% GHG by 2050. Moreover it is well-known for developing Bahnstadt, one of Europe’s largest passive neighbourhoods. Heidelberg signed the Covenant of Mayors in 2008, and is a committed member of Energy Cities for over 20 years, holding the Presidency of its Board of Directors since 2005.
