Co-designing 2050 with citizens: peer-to-peer session #stuttgart2017

By Miriam Eisermann on 3 April 2017

Every year, energy transitioners from both the public and the private sector meet at Energy Cities’ Annual Conference to build a community around energy democracy, devolution and divestment. This year, hosted by the German city of Stuttgart, the conference will feature a special peer-to-peer debate on community participation and stakeholder mobilisation.

In the afternoon of conference day 2 (27th April, 14h45), we will have an exciting large-scale peer-to-peer session around how to design energy strategies for a city by involving all local players. We’ll take a closer look at the experience of Nantes Métropole (in the West of France) where business men, young people, representatives of associations and other interested citizens have their say: Nantes is currently carrying out its“Great Debate”, a 7 months-long consultation process on the city’s energy transition.

Inspired by this very recent experience and based on your own experience, this session will be a unique moment for exchanging views on mobilisation and empowerment strategies, identifying levers and ideas that could also work at your place.

Some of the topics we would like to discuss amongst all participants:

  • Empowering citizens: the role of a local authority or mission for associations etc.?
  • Tools and methods for a “happy” and “playful” transition
  • Co-designing with the business sector: what means to establish lasting relationships?
