Climate report echoing cities’ voices: need for urgent action

Today, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its latest climate report. The team of experts provides another dramatic assessment of how a global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels will impact our cities and lives. Various non-state organisations reacted to the report. Especially cities notify the same need for urgent action. Together with other civil society actors, they are calling upon EU leaders to accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon Europe in line with a 1.5°C pathway.

District Heating and Cooling planning made easier with Hotmaps!

How Polish cities are bucking the government’s coal trend: 5 ways to push for more renewable energy

Poland is not known for being the strongest supporter of solar, wind and biomass. Instead, the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party is defending the country’s last coal-fired power plant, called Ostrołęka C project, to ensure Poland’s energy security. The government should encourage renewable strategies at the local level, cities say. We looked at energy strategies in Polish municipalities and found a lot of initiative, ingenuity and a big desire for change.
